SOUTHWORTH — The motorcyclist killed Friday afternoon in a collision with a South Kitsap School District bus has been identified as 45-year-old Jason Pinard, of Port Orchard.
Washington State Patrol troopers responded to reports of a collision just before 4 p.m. Friday involving a school bus and a motorcycle on Sedgwick Road.
Bus route 15 out of South Colby was driving east on Sedgwick Road near the intersection of Cottonwood Drive, according to a statement from WSP. Pinard was traveling westbound on Sedgwick on his Honda motorcycle.
The bus was turning left onto Cottonwood drive when the motorcycle, which was traveling at high speed according to WSP, struck the bus behind the right rear tire. Pinard was ejected, and motorcycle came to rest in a ditch on the eastbound side of the road.
Pinard died at the scene. He had been wearing a helmet, according to the statement.
Students onboard the bus were reported to be OK by school district officials. Emergency responders released students to a replacement bus, and they rode back to South Colby with the school’s principal, where parents picked them up.
