A semi truck crash that happened about 11 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 405 near the Fourth Avenue overpass has closed all northbound lanes of the freeway. The truck is on its side and emergency crews are currently on the scene.
The Oregon Department of Transportation has closed the left southbound lane and all northbound lanes. Traffic is squeezing by using the emergency lane. Estimated time for a tow to move the truck is 45-60 min (as of 11:30 a.m.).
Drivers should continue north on Interstate 5 and reconnect with I-405 at the Fremont Bridge, or take surface streets.
UPDATE 12:48 p.m.: ODOT alerts drivers that the clean up may last into the afternoon commute.
Update 12:30 p.m.: A crane has arrived to help right the overturned truck.
Update 11:41 a.m.: All southbound lanes now open (one left lane had been closed for emergency vehicles). Northbound lanes remain closed.
Update 11:37 a.m.: One lane is now getting by on northbound I-405 according to Portland Police. A special tow is required and the vehicle may be in place for another 90 minutes.
