COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – Police believe speed was a possible factor in a deadly motorcycle crash in Colorado Springs.
The crash happened on Friday at about 11:46 p.m. Investigators believe the motorcyclist was traveling southbound on I-25 at a “high rate of speed” when he exited the highway at Bijou Street. While attempting to turn westbound on Bijou Street he reportedly lost control, hit a median, was separated from his motorcycle and hit a Subaru Outback.
The motorcyclist died at the scene. No one inside the Subaru was hurt.
The motorcyclist was identified as Danzig Herrera of Colorado Springs. Toxicology test results are pending to determine if impairment was a factor in the crash.
The crash marks the 36th traffic fatalitiy in Colorado Springs and 11th motorcycle-related death in 2019.
