Authorities responded to reports of a traffic collision involving a semi-truck and another vehicle on the southbound I-5 Freeway near the Weigh Scales around 2:18 AM.

Units arriving on scene located a vehicle that slammed into a semi-truck becoming lodged underneath the truck’s trailer.

Five people were injured including one person who was still trapped in the wreckage of the crash.

Firefighters used the jaws of life and other power tools to free the trapped victim before transporting them to an area hospital in an air ambulance.

Two of the remaining four patients were transported to area hospitals in ground ambulances while the balance refused transport.

The cause of the crash is under investigation and authorities do not suspect alcohol or speed were factors.
