Accident occurred on Interstate 15 early Sunday morning
APPLE VALLEY, CA, (January 19, 2020) – A truck driver and another person were tragically killed in a collision between two tractor-trailers on Sunday, January 19th in Apple Valley.
One of the semi-trucks overturned at about 4:15 a.m. on Interstate 15 and it was struck by a second 18-wheeler. Two people were killed in the accident and another was transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.
It is unclear at this time if the second person who died was a passenger in one of the big rigs or a Good Samaritan who stopped to try to help. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating the crash.
FATAL TRACTOR-TRAILER CRASH INVESTIGATION
During its investigation, the CHP will try to determine what caused the second big rig to strike the overturned tractor-trailer.
A variety of factors can contribute to a tractor-trailer crash, including loss of control of the truck, a tire blowout, a disabling or non-disabling vehicle failure, excessive speed, lane drifting, improper truck maneuvering and driver fatigue. According to a recent study, almost one out of three commercial truck drivers have mild to severe sleep apnea, which affects their alertness and performance on the road.
Candice Bond, an experienced tractor-trailer accident attorney, said in cases such as this it’s imperative to have an independent investigation conducted in a timely manner to protect the family of a victim’s rights.
“Tractor-trailer crashes are often complex and many factors can play a role in these types of accidents,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Sanchez-Gordon. “A skilled attorney can protect a grieving family from trucking companies, which often send their own investigators to crash sites and possess a variety of resources they can utilize in an attempt to defend a negligent truck driver. Your lawyer can advocate for you by hiring expert witnesses, conducting drivers’ background checks, locating witnesses to the crash and reviewing applicable insurance coverage, while carefully guiding you through the legal process.”
CALIFORNIA WRONGFUL DEATH ATTORNEY
Pending the investigation, the family of the victims of this crash may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this tragic incident.
“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Andrew Wright, of counsel with Bond Sanchez-Gordon. “We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.”
